This Friday, September 22nd, my work will be included in an exhibition at DiverseWorks, my first since arriving in Houston one year ago. Please join me for the opening reception (7pm-9pm) of LINES DRAWN, a project that explores how artists re-imagine, disrupt and question received notions of borders and boundaries. By addressing issues of immigration, nationalism, equity and human rights through their work, the artists encourage us to contemplate the many barriers in our own lives as social constructions of power. It is humbling to be amongst so many great artists in this prestigious show. My work is a manifestation of my social practice project LOCCA: Law Office Center for Citizenship and Art, by a re-installation of my office desk to dialogue with participants about basic internal human rights and concepts about the meaning of extraterritorial space and extraterritorial citizenship. I will be occupying the installation/desk every other Saturday from 1pm – 5pm (September 30th, October 7th and 21st, November 4th and 11th). In addition I will be co-moderating a panel discussion about extraterritorial places and person related to national borders. Please see the details below. Hope to see many of you there.

Set within the current context of national and global environmental, political and social crises, Lines Drawn also offers a forum to consider how the complexities and controversies of our time can be addressed through art. The project includes an exhibition of prints, zines, video, and installation work; zine and poster making workshops; and live performances, readings and public conversations.
Participating artists include Jorge Galvan & John Pluecker (Houston), Mariam Ghani (New York), Margaret Griffith (Los Angeles), Khaled Jarrar (Tucson), Pedro Lasch (Durham), Phillip Pyle II (Houston); Henry Sanchez (Houston), Just Seeds, and workshops, performances and public programs by Keelin Burrows and Travis Smith (in collaboration with the Printing Museum), Carrie Schneider (in collaboration with Arts Take Action Houston), Sara Uribe (in collaboration with John Pluecker), ZineFest Houston, and the Houston Cinema Arts Festival. The exhibition also includes a curated Zine Library with selections of activist zines from across North America.
